Performing Arts
Experience Taos arts by being part of the audience.
There are several local venues for the performing arts in Taos. The most active is Taos Community Auditorium – the TCA – owned and operated by Taos Center for the Arts – also called TCA. “TCA Presents” is TCA’s own offerings of national performing arts companies. In any given year Taosenos may have the opportunity to see Alvin Alley or Vivan Brasil dance troupes, watch Alro Guthrie and Family, Ricardo Lemvo, or other well known musicians perform. Throughout the year, TCA also presents performances for kids – Missoula Children’s Theater has been showing up in Taos every summer for nearly twenty years.
Taos has a number of its own theater groups and these amateur actors rival the pros in their stage-worthiness. One recent Taos-written and performed production was called “World of Wonders.” It treated audiences to a meticulously choreographed tapestry of dance, video, light and sound effects while exposing the seedy side of circus life.
TCA also presents an ongoing series of independent films and is the venue chosen by three chamber music groups: Taos School of Music, Taos Chamber Music Group, and Music from Angel Fire.
TCA is about to undergo a massive renovation project funded by the State of New Mexico and many individual donations from arts-lovers throughout Taos County.
The Harwood Museum of Art is site of other performances and lectures and this facility is also planning an expansion to create more space for the performing arts.
The Storyteller Cinema is our movie house with seven screens presenting a wide range of films every day of the week.
The Town of Taos Convention Center offers a venue for other local performances as do several independently-owned facilities.
